Everyday model looks like this:

Here’s the pro one:

Word. Tx for sending it in Clark!

10-lb spot caught!

> Joe Mitzel of northern CA caught this 10.09-lb spotted bass in a small lake near his home. Mitzel caught the giant spot on his Lew’s Tournament Speed Spin 300 on a Roboworm rigged on a dropshot. The fish measured in at 24″ inches long and had a 19.5″ inch girth.

Is Chris Lane still on?

Bass Zone article points out that he’s won an Elite every year since winning el Clasico in 2012: Detroit River, St. Johns River, Sabine River. And the ’12 Classic was on the Red River. See a pattern? Here’s a hint:

Article also points out that KVD hasn’t won since 2011 (LA Delta Classic), but has finished 2nd each of the last three seasons…so you doubters might want to rethink yosefs yo! KVD say to the feeshes:

What’s happening at Grand?

How ’bout this:

> By noon, Grand Lake’s elevation was at 752.96 feet, 10.96 feet higher than the daily target elevation for Dec. 28 of 742 feet.

That was historic flooding around Christmas. Water is being released, but Grand is still 8 feet high. Will this impact the Classic? It’s 2 months away, but could the guys actually be fishing falling, muddy water?

Any locals have an idea, let me know. I think Christie is sick of talking to me (see next item).

Check out my new fishfinder.

For some reason it’s better at finding fish shallow. It’s pretty quiet…but ornery at times….

Tip of the Day

> The fish will follow the bait wherever it goes, and if the water gets really dirty, at least some of those fish will have to move up shallow to eat.

> Also, when the water’s cold, the fish are going to get up shallow to sun. That dirty water gives them a chance to get up there really shallow during the day.

> The worst deal for winter bass fishing is muddy, cold water. Keep this in mind, and if you have a cold rain that muddies up the creeks and the shallow banks, you’ll want to leave these areas alone for a while and let the conditions stabilize.

> If the water’s dirty in the wintertime, you want the fish to notice your bait by feel. That’s why you want to throwing baits with a big profile, something that’ll move some water, put off some vibrations or sound and give those fish a target to locate.

> 1/2-oz Booyah Spinnerbait: It puts off a lot of vibration and it’s something you can slow down. I’d use tandem Colorado blades and use a trailer with a lot of movement, like a Yum Christie Craw.

> 1/2-oz Booyah Jig: I want a jig with rattles and a big trailer like a Yum Chunk to move water.

> Crankbait: I’d use a 5A or 6A Bomber, something you can bang into rocks and try to make a fish react. I like crankbaits with strong contrast, like red or black/red.

If the water’s too dirty and it’s too cold, you can try a dirty water dog:

That’s also the name of a VH tune, from their worst album but….

Quote of the Day

No I don’t have any permits, but I know I can throw a Horny Toad in this stuff.

Edwin Evers throwin’ out a little funnin‘ when discovered planting brush at Grand. lol

Shot of the Day

Gotta give this to the one and only James “I love cats” Overstreet. Bassmaster.com just published his top 100 shots of 2015. What’s amazing about that is he only took 110 all year (lol).

I couldn’t pick one. Here are four of my faves, a lot more great ones in there. (But JO, what up with the one with the two ducks??)

My one-word captions for the shots, clockwise from the top left: Nads, Cough, Fugitive, Tag.

Random

Didya hear about the folks occupying a wildlife refuge in Oregon? This link is about that. Not something you’d find in mainstream media and I can’t say how accurate it is, but if even half of it is true it’s pretty scary what our govt can do/is up to. I used to live in DC…do not underestimate the power special interests have over our govt. Not ON our govt — OVER it. No matter which party is in power. #sux #backtobassin

    Hello jay,
a couple of times you’ve been kinda hard on Ned and his Ned rig.

Just so you know he was the absolute first to do what all of you try and do today. Anaylze the pros in depth so that we can all learn. His infisherman articles starting in the eighties with Clunn are classic. Try and find some for a template for today.

Your cartoon of him as an old geezer is way out of place. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

And yes you should be throwing the rig.
