1labelWhy bass like blue?

Ever wondered about this? I mean, when’s the last time you saw a blue crawfish or a blue “bluegill” or whatever? I’ve wondered about this for years, did a little interwebz research and don’t have a quote for ya but got this:

Several folks who have scooped out some crayfish from a lake or stream and dumped them in a tank noticed they turn blue after they molt.

Does that not make complete sense or what? I’m assuming somehow the bass know it, maybe because they have more of a smell or something. Anyhow, now combining a black/blue jig with a gp trailer makes a lot of sense too cuz it ain’t exactly bright blue:

cblue crayfish

That craw was pretty red to start with. This color Yo-Zuri 3DB Crayfish looks like money:

Here’s the kicker: Sometimes — depending on the species, location and water chemistry — a crawfish can molt and just stay the color it is, or turn red. Not like a lobster, but makes me wonder whether a black/red jig n trailer might kill ’em too. Anyone ever try that? Mark…?

That’s a Strike King Rage Blade, but you get the idea….

Btw I trolled enough of crayfish sites to find out that some people name their pet crayfish…pinchy.

2labelCan you wait 20 seconds?

Or 4 minutes?? 20 seconds in bassin’ is an eternity, especially in the winter:

4 minutes? Forget it. That’s how I’d feel anyhow. BUT it could be a requirement in foolin’ winter basses:

> The idea is that you absolutely convince any bass that’s hanging nearby that this helpless creature is going to go to waste if he does not eat it. And…a fish may hang over a bait for 3 or 4 minutes before it decides whether or not to eat.

> That means you have to have patience on a level that’s rare among high-energy tournament bassers…. The lightly-weighted lures can take 20 seconds just to get to bottom in 10 feet, and then it’s best to let them sit there for at least a full minute before you just barely breath them into life, the tiniest of twitches that may only make the bait crawl a few inches along bottom.

> Then you wait again, then twitch again, and so on….

Fish scribbler Frank Sargeant recommends the Rebel TracDown Minnow, but spybaits like the Storm Arashi Spinbait or weighting your fave jerkbait can do the trick. Soft-plastics too…if you have the patience…and a good sandwich to eat while you’re waiting for the sink….

3labelDude sells homemade bait for…$1,700!!

Kevin Brightwell, a firefightin’ man outta Harrison, AR:

> …as a second job he owns KGB Swimbaits, a small fishing lure business he runs out of Harrison.

> Typically he sells his products on Facebook, but the KG Bullfrog was his first time selling a bait on eBay. He listed the new lure…for $100 and in just 4 days it sold for nearly $1,700.

> “You know I was surprised by it. I make these in my basement…it just kept going up and I was really shocked by it.”

> “You know um its taken a lot of hard work and a lot of time, but I think I’ve finally found a way to make fishing into a career, something that will at least pay for itself.”

<p<Don’t quit the firehouse yet mang! But…sell 80 of those and you can fish the Elites….

Some folks say it’ll fish small but it doesn’t look too bad?

Lol, at least Overstreet, Seigo and Bowman will have an easier time….

That confuses me as much as this pic:

7. TN writer calls out J-Wheels and Morgan.

Tip of the Day

The best advice Jeff Kriet ever got from Rick Clunn.

On managing your tournament day. Great advice for anyone:

Quote of the Day

Compared to 2014 when I was on cusp of getting booted out, things are 360 degrees better.

Fletch Shryock talkin‘ ’bout his experience on the Elites. But…Fletch, I’m no math genius or anything, but if you’ve gone 360 degrees, doesn’t that mean you’re back where you started or…?

Shot of the Day

Strike King prez John Barns with a couple ditch melons he fooled with a Red Eye Shad. John’s a former D1 pigskinner, I’m guessin’ about 6′ 7″ so bear that in mind when you’re a-lookin’ at those basses:
