Mueller not from CT, KVD never done it, Hackney still on

THANK YOU VETS! (And those currently serving.) Riddle me this: Why does our gov’t treat its veterans like crap? This makes me angry, man! Which is why regular folks have to do what they can to help out: check HelmentstoHardhats.org.

Today’s Top 5

Dude made the Classic last year, then won this weekend’s Old Mil B.A.S.S. Nation Championship on the Ouachita River – by 7 lbs! – to make the 2015 Classic. Ergo there is NO WAY he is really from CT cuz no one in that little state can catch ’em like that – hahaha! Congrats bro.

> Mueller’s victory came courtesy of just two lures: a 4-inch Reins Craw Tube in black blue fleck and a Zoom WEC E1 squarebill in chartreuse shad.

> “I fished in Horseshoe Creek all three days. It took an hour to get back in there. You have to go through Moon Lake and then a little canal that goes back. It’s really shallow.”

> “Every day, I threw the crankbait in the morning before the sun came up. The fish were off the trees in the roots. Then, when the sun came up, I’d go to areas that create shade, fishing deeper cypress trees, around 3 to 6 feet.”

> On Days 1 and 2, the majority of his weight came in the later hours on the tube, but on the final day, the crankbait produced more for him.

I can’t say how hard it’s going to be because I’ve never done it before.

KVD talkin’ to Bassin’Fan about not fishin’ el Clasico. That is a STRONG statement! Also said:

> I can tell you that I’m not looking forward to it because the competitor in me wants to be there.

Here’s what he looks like when he’s mad:

Oh wait…that’s JCVD.

That thing gets a little smaller every single day.

Kevin Short talkin’ ’bout the camper he and his wife have lived in since a tornado took out their house in April. Good news is the new digs are pretty far along.

Oops here they is:

Hackney still “on.”

The Hack Attack is out filming with Mr Crappie, hooks a crappie then this happens:

Hack can’t help but catch ’em!

Exhibit 763:

News

1. CA: Clear Lake bass eating…

…this:

> They have been pumping the stomachs of the bass and say they are full of silverside minnows.

2. SC: New Bass Pro coming upstate.

3. BassFan sold again.

Wired2Fish got sucked up into Scout.com, and now BassFan.com and the rest of Intermedia Outdoors (In-Fish, Game & Fish, Florida Sportsman, Sportsman Channel, etc.) got bought by zillionaire Stan Kroenke – after he beat Intermedia last year in a bidding war to buy the Outdoor Channel (for $265 mil). Kroenke also owns half of World Fishing Network, plus the St. Louis Rams NFL team and a few other major-sports teams, and a whole lot more.

This actually could be good if some of the chaff gets tossed and the pool of outdoor media decreases, but….

My fave quote from the release:

> Peter Kern, Managing Partner of InterMedia Partners, stated, “We are proud of the success of InterMedia Outdoors over the last 8 years and the work they have done to grow and innovate in the outdoor media space.”

Tip of the Day

Winter jigging basics.

Case you can’t bring yourself to try it:

> The first essential tool…is a depthfinder, the bigger the better. A jumbotron like the Lowrance HDS-12 with side-scanning capabilities and touch screen makes it easy…. The bait shows up as dense ball, and with the unit in the scanning mode, you can easily see the individual fish and their exact position in relation to the bait.

> Next, you need something that looks like the bait. Among the more successful lures for this type of fishing are the same lipless vibrating crankbaits that work so well in early spring and late fall being ripped through shoreline grass. The Rat-L-Trap is the archetype, but the Red Eye Shad from Strike King and many others work well, too.

> Because the line tie is typically in the middle of the back for many of these lures, they balance nicely as vertical lures.

> Lower the lure until it’s a foot or so above the bass – not the bait, but the bass – and then yo-yo it up and down with a series of upward twitches of the rod, following it back down on the drop but not actually interfering with the fall.

> Most strikes occur on the fall, which means you have to develop a feel for the slight “tick” on the line that means a bass has grabbed the lure. A quick hook set and you’re in business.

> I personally prefer jigging with braid [but] braid tied straight to the just about any treble-hook jigging lure will foul on the hooks as you flip the lure up and down. If you add 18 inches of 20-pound fluorocarbon leader, [that] will prevent the fouling most of the time.

Quote of the Day

The whole campus is looking at it and is proud. This could put our school on the map.

Member of the SUNY Cobleskill bassin’ team, after finishing 2nd at the New York Chapter of The Bass Federation Collegiate Cup Championship on Oct. 18.

Awesome he’s stoked but….
