Today’s Top 4

1. $1 mil purse at BASSFest next June?

Jerry McKinnis said it on The Livewell, where he goes over all the Elite stops. Note that does NOT mean $1 mil for 1st, but still:

My fave quote from that vid – Jerry talkin’ ’bout the Philly/Delaware River stop being close to NJ:

> “That little kid Iaconelli lives over there, so he’s gonna bring a bunch of friends.”

Said in jest, and tickled my heehee bone mang!

2. I’m roughly one Big Mac away from developing a serious set of man boobs.

Bassin’master jack of all trades Shaye Baker. If you haven’t read his column yet about losin’ some LBs, do. It’s good.

Here’s the secret to losing weight: Eat gluten-free. We have to do that here because my son is allergic to it, and we all dropped weight – and I don’t have any to lose! Proof: here’s me walkin’ outta my spaceship:

3. Why Westies don’t fish derbies.

From westernbass.com. Didn’t get a whole lot of response, but interesting.

I’ll scurry squirrel-like out on a limb and say that Cali is the most broken part of the country when it comes to tournament bass fishing, has been for a while. Truly wish someone could fix that. (No doubt someone’ll take that the wrong way…whatever.)

4. Seniors win CA bassin’ derby.

Only 16 anglers in the field, but still when guys 71, 70 and 69 win, that’s kinda cool. Can’t find that in any other sport!

Here they are:

Tip of the Day

Andy Morgan: Jig fall rate.

> “I get real picky about how many strands my jig skirt has and how much of each color it has in it. Sometimes I might only have one little strand of orange in there for contrast.”

> “The main thing I’m concerned with is altering the fall of the jig. A lot of times I just go up in line size to slow the fall of a small jig. But adding extra strands to the skirt can also slow a jig’s fall.”

> “When everyone is catching fish, how your jig falls really may not matter. But in…those tough tournaments, I think it does matter. And it gives me a lot of confidence with a tough bite.”

Quote of the Day

It’s a paradox of our industry that we’re all revolutionary but substantially equivalent.

Guy talkin’ ’bout medical devices, but sounds like the bait biz, don’t it?

Shot of the Day

That trout ate 20 shrews. Here’s the thing – I’m not eatin’ that trout. Would be like eatin’ a cat!
