Can you catch bass on it? Heck yeah! You could catch a bass on a brick!

lol…reminds me of the x-ray I saw the other day — weird and disturbing:

What’s the Weenee looking like?

Apparently an alternate spelling of “Winyah,” where the Elites are this week, is “Weenee” — so with that being the case, who’d want to call it Winyah?? Some info from here and here:

> Casey Ashley: “All of the rain is probably going to make everyone run to the Cooper River. That’s going to be the s river.” [Believe it’s a 2-hr one-way run?]

> “Out of 100, I’d guess as many as 50 will make that run.” [SC’s John Proctor, who won the Weenee B.A.S.S. Nation Southern Divisional in April 2015.]

> Brandon Card: “The high water is going to basically take the area, this huge area with all these rivers, and make it fish way smaller. We won’t be able to catch fish in those waters where all the rivers are flooded out. Guys are going to be concentrated and we’re all going to be fishing in areas that are not flooded.”

Looks like Cajun Cliff Crochet has figured ’em out just fine:

…if I can just survive Winyah Bay it’s all familiar territory after that.

Keith Combs talkin‘ ’bout this derby. Shows that familiarity with bodies of water does make a difference, even in Elite confidence, just in case you wudn’t sure.

Will crazy colors be key on the Weenee?

Remember reading one time that Jimmy Houston swears by pink spinnerbaits in muddy water. The Lindners love pink for smallies…in clear water. Never did try that color but we’ve all seen times when color makes a difference.

Then recently I read this thing Mark Menendez wrote:

> I remember painting a Strike King Series 3 hot pink and getting a nice check in freshly muddied water.

Menendez also set the B.A.S.S. big-bass record with a 13-09 he caught at TX’s Richland Chambers Rez on a CANTALOUPE-colored 1/2-oz Oldham’s spinnerbait — yellow skirt with 5 strands of red, and sparkly gold willow/Colo blades. “The same fruity-colored bait helped me qualify for a Bassmaster Classic in 2001,” he said.

Here’s the only shot I could find of it:

Not sure if any of the big companies are still making pink spinnerbaits, but small ones are. Here’s the pinkest “major” I could find, the Terminator T1 in cotton candy:

Clay you rock man!

Just occurred to me: Clay Dyer might be the one fisherman that best represents everything that’s great about our sport. What JO posted about Clay recently:

> Photo a Day for Four Years – No. 1330 – My brother Clay Dyer brought a limit to the scales both days here on Smith Lake [Open]. He’s a straight up, inspirational stud of a man that doesn’t know the word quit. Love that dude, he uplifts me any time he’s around. Every day, every single day he opens his eyes, he rises and mans up like few human beings that have ever took a breath of air on this earth.

Water was up so the flip was on. Dicky used a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver (bl/bl) and Nick a V&M Cliff’s Wild Craw (gr p) with 1-oz tungsten weight.

Here are the winners — for some reason (maybe sharing the trophy and the background?) reminds me of a prom photo…lol sorry guys but bet you can see it too!

> …helped his wife pose with the still-lively bass for a post on her private Instagram page.

> “I didn’t really know what I was doing,” Bernadette admitted. “But I was just holding it out when it started flipping and bit my hand.”

> In the commotion, the bass latched onto her ring finger. When she pulled away and the fish dropped to the ground, Bernadette’s wedding ring went with it. The bass flopped on the rocks for a few seconds before making it safely back into the water — with her ring in its belly.

Bill Evans Lake, $2K reward, said the bass was around 7 lbs.

20. CA: Will saltwater areas still be off-limits?

Not freshwater but part of a larger strategy for decreasing fishing. The areas off-limits are a big deal in CA, were supposed to be fishable again but now are up for “renewal.” #bullspit

21. Drone-heads now have lobbyists.

GoPro one company behind it.

Tip of the Day

Tidal systems seem to be the toughest water for most bass anglers. The Delaware River scared the shorts off all but one Elite angler last year, and Winyah Bay seems to be having the same effect. I called Bass University‘s Pete “Villanova!” Gluszek to pick his brains about tidal systems because he’s a fer-sher expert. Full tip is on BassBlaster.rocks, excerpt below.

> “Flooding means the conditions are uns, and that’s bad. Tidal fish are very susceptible to that even though the job of estuaries is to get the water out.

> “It’s been my experience that if it’s high and muddying, it will shut them down, especially if last week it wasn’t that way. If a muddy-water situation is normal, it won’t phase them that much. But if last week it was clear and s, that can really shut them down. It’ll take several days of that before the fish will adjust and go about feeding again.

> “If it’s not crested yet, it’s difficult. The challenge in that scenario will be to find the clearest possible water you can find – someplace protected from runoff. Grass beds might filter and protect some areas. It’ll be a hunt for clear water.

> “But if it has crested, what I’ve found on tidal river systems is that once they crest, they almost immediately start clearing. That’s a huge thing to recognize. They can still can be muddy, but if the water’s clearing – the silt is dropping out – the fish immediately go back to feeding or spawning, whatever they were doing [before the flooding].”

Quote of the Day

I think he’ll win two more Classics.

Bobby Dennis, owner of Luck-E-Strike, talkin‘ ’bout Rick Clunn. But…doesn’t Clunn need a Darth Vader or Darth Sidious to defeat or a plant to save or am I getting him confused with someone else?

Sorry Rick I can’t help it….

Shot of the Day

Looking at this pic of an 11-lber’s giganto maw makes me wonder why the heck it’d want to eat something so small. On a diet??
