Today's Top 5

1. New type of outboard?

'Rude puttin' on the tease:

> …event this June 13-15 promises a product reveal that will mark a new era in the marine industry, says Jose Boisjoli, CEO of BRP.

Here's the vid:

This shot from the vid tell any of you mechanically include guys anything?

2. Ott did longline.

More deets on DeFoe's win:

> DeFoe did employ the strolling or long-lining method on day 1 to get his cranks down to their max running depth, but none of the fish he weighed came out of water deeper than 18 feet.

> "Most of the fish were right on the bottom. Some areas were rock or slick bottom where there was just a contour change. There were some bars or points, but it was pretty slick. We call them river slicks. They're just the rounded tops of rocks."

Along with the Rapala DT-16 (Caribbean shad, below), he also burned a Storm Arashi Slient 3 squarebill (hot blue shad) shallow.

3. Why KVD is #1.

So much more than fishing. This is about 2 older gals who won a fishing trip with him and had no idea who he was:

> She said since neither woman knew how to fish, Van Dam provided them with poles and taught them how to cast before they climbed onto his Nitro boat to fish on Table Rock Lake.

> "He was very patient with us. Every time we got tangled he just helped free us. I caught a bass while fishing with his pole and lure. He cut the lure off the line and gave it to me. He even autographed it.”

> “Kevin said ‘Sandy you have my number if you need anything.’ He was so nice."

I asked Kevin to take me fishing once, he said:

I was like…yeah, ok….

4. Slop Frog Mama.

> She toils on Beaver Dam Lake’s south shore in the basement of her home where old Presto deep fryers are used to melt and mix plastic that is poured into molds.

> Plastic tails are added later, typically in the upstairs living room while she watches episodes of “Big Bang Theory,” “Modern Family” and the PBS hit “Doc Martin.”

> [The bait] was designed by Jim Torgerson, a tournament bass fisherman…in the late 1990s after becoming frustrated with other weedless, lightweight topwater baits that offered inconsistent hooksets.

Here's what it looks like:

Here's Mama:

Wait…PBS has a hit??

5. KY state champs.

Tip of the Day

New way to cool livewells.

Ever hear of or seen one of these?

Elite pro Rick Morris had me check one out on his boat. Inquired about it, it's the V-T2 Livewell Ventilation System by New Pro Products. More from the company:

> Livewells are a trap for heat and harmful gases.

> When you put your boat up on pad and run down the lake, the force of air (called ram air) from the speed of the boat forces a flow of air into the livewell. This fills the air space with oxygen-rich air and disturbs the surface of livewell water.

> This disturbance helps to increase the oxygen transfer from the atmospheric air into the water. It also increases the evaporation rate and thus cools the livewell water, and it also helps to strip the CO2 from the livewell.

> Once fresh air comes in contact and disturbs the water surface, these oxygen rich and cooler molecules fall to the bottom of the livewell and the warmer molecules carrying CO2 rise up. The air movement…carries or forces it out the back louver of the V-T2.

> Let's say your are on the trolling motor. This is when you will have oxygen entering into the livewell via both openings of the V-T2. Also heat rises up leaving the livewell space, and so does the higher concentration of CO2 into the lower [concentration in] the atmosphere. Think what CO2 does when you open a Coke – after awhile the CO2 will leave and the drink becomes flat.

> The rates of delivering more oxygen, or cooling or stripping gases is much less than when the boat is running of course, but same processes at work.

I don't have one, can't say if it works or not, but these folks on the BBC say it does…and if it does it's cool as heck which is why you be readin' 'bout it here.
