Chaddeus Morgenthaler won the “Bassmaster Rumble at Toho presented by UFC” with a Missile Baits D Bomb. Significant for two reasons:
> Johnny Crews is nuts (but smart) for making baits that his competitors are using to beat him.
> With this win, Missile has joined Gambler and Reaction Innovations as a company whose baits you MUST throw when you’re in Flo-Ri-Da.
> …Missile D Bomb…he pitched into isolated cover in 3 to 4 feet far offshore. The color was bruiser flash, a black/blue variety. “It’s a good mid-sized bait so I didn’t have to worry about whether it was too big or too small, and it would slither through the matted vegetation easily.”
> He rigged it with a 3/0-straight shank Gamakatsu heavy flipping hook and a 1.5-oz tungsten weight. Most anglers use 4/0 hooks with the D Bomb, he noted, but switching to the 3/0 improved his catch ratio.
DANG man! The craziest part about this ain’t what happened, it’s all the bass-heads around the country having an opinion about the incident and the guys without being there or knowing them. Huh?? Two other dudes who were actually there had different opinions on what went down, so….
I’ve covered enough DQs and whatevers (politics, crime) to know you can’t “know,” and it’s never as big a deal as everyone thinks — “hurt the sport,” “viral,” etc. = nope.
I don’t know enough to have an opinion. But sounds like nobody got seriously hurt, thankfully, and both guys wish they would’ve handled it differently. B.A.S.S. DQd them — let’s all give ’em grace and move on…unless something else comes to light….
On the plus side, they’ve been invited to guest on Nat Geo’s Alaska Fish Wars:
– Randall “Amps” Tharp talkin‘ how bad the Kissimmee lock scene was. Also say:
> Trying to enter in turn or in any order was pointless. Three boats trying to go through an opening only wide enough for two. Boats driving over other boats. Boats were turned sideways, and brand-new $80,000 rigs and boat wraps were damaged.
> I’m disappointed in my performance in the tournament, but I am really thankful that I survived and my boat only has a few scratches.
Let’s review the eye chart everyone:

And here’s the maybe:
That ham is a 28-lb mutant Idaho rainbow BEAST. Would love to see the Cali bass that swallers a bait like that….
– Bwahahahaha! Awesome Bassin’Fan typo, which may be fixt by the time you read this. Zaldain, I hope you’ve been usin’ Megabass baits and conditioner….
Was from a post about Zaldaingerous (says he’s Zaldangermouse in FL) is no longer a Strike King guy and is now Megabass…possibly because someone else is gone from Megabass….

Finally watched it. Cool. Nice job Jeffreys.
3. Hibdons struggling for sponsor $.
Thought about it…gotta say that’s wrong. I hope someone(s) steps up. Mrs. Hibdon said:
> “If it weren’t for guys like Guido, Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston, there wouldn’t be pro bass fishing like it is today. But when these guys get older, they’re just kind of forgotten.”
Not by us bass-heads!

> “[Larry]’s been instrumental in designing some of the baits in the past year, especially our 6 3/4-inch Pro Senko. He fishes it on a shaky head a lot and really played with it for a while and got it just right.”
Makes me want.
7. FLWer Alex Davis gets Jackall.
Reminds me of this classic tune:
8. FLWers Shaw and Adams return.
And FLW Tour field now 154, up from 152.
> “…there is not an outdoor television series in the world with higher production values, greater real-time tempo or more on-camera fishing drama.”
FLW also got Zoom for the first time.
Well done piece by Bob McNally.
11. FL: BUI might go on records.
Word.
12. TN: Cherokee bassin’ is hot.
13. WI: Pool 4 amp being built.
Too bad WI doesn’t allow bassin’….
14. MI: Out of state license fee drops.
Z, can I sleep on your couch this summer?

> The foundation for Yamamoto’s new rig is the all-new 7.75″ Kut Tail worm…in typical Gary Yamamoto fashion, he rigs it backwards, wacky style, and adds a nail weight.
