Today’s Top 5
Matty the Herren wins one!
By 8 oz on at the TTBC on Ray Roberts, TX!

My man Flav be like:

Dude I know, right? Stoked for him too. Full pattern deets on BassBlaster.rocks, but here’s a few excerpts:

> “I fished a Santone M-Series Jig, 5/8-oz watermelon red, with a watermelon red Reactions Innovations Twerk trailer.

[Here’s a shot of his actual baits — the other two baits he added in on day 3.]

> “It was a reaction bite. I’d throw it in the shadiest spot on the tree, let it fall to the bottom and if a fish didn’t have it I went to the next tree. I fished thousands of trees.

> “The line would just curl and swim off. What didn’t make any sense was they left the tree like another fish was with them. That gave me trouble the first 2 days because I thought I’d catch another [on the same tree] but never would.

> “I fished the jig on a 7′ 6” heavy Kistler KLX rod, Ardent Elite reel (7.3) and 20-lb Gamma Edge fluorocarbon.”

Thrift and Clausen patterns coming Thursdee, ran outta time today.

The tale of the Zaldaingerous.
Once upon a time at the TTBC, Mr. Zaldaingerous took some happiness pills…
…then scanned the horizon with distant look in his eye. He measured the wind, beat his chest with one fist, launched his boat and invoked The Fishin’ Force…
…then with steely determination set the hook on this…
…7-12 of butter-fed Ray Bob melon that he hooked with ferocious purpose using this:

With a grand gesture of humility, Mr. Zaldaingerous cleared his throat and declared:

> “I caught her in a cove off the main lake. She was in an isolated mesquite tree in 6′ wrapped with green willow bushes. It was a perfect spot for a big fish.

> “The jig was a homemade 3/4-oz flipping jig in green pumpkin/orange, with a green pumpkin/purple and gold flake [Strike King] Rage Craw trailer.”

David Mercer of the Toyota Texas Fest pronounced in a bulbous voice, “It is for this achievement that we now bestow upon you, Mr. Zaldaingerous, the title of professor emeritus of Texas bassin’..and this brand new Toyota Tundra pickup truck automobile vehicle.”

The woman who captured Mr. Zaldaingerous’ heart swooned. At first the crowd thought she was overwhelmed by her man’s truly dangerous fishing performance. But it turned out she was overjoyed because it was her birthday…but he was like:
The End. No idea how or why that just happened. Moving on….
Otro TTBC stuff.

> Guys who have been fishing well overall on the Elites — Herren, Clausen, Lefebre — finished 1st, 3rd and 5th.

> Strike King guys — Cody Meyer, KVD, Zaldain, Hack — finished 7th-10th. Ko-inky-dink? Yep.

> Odd tournament coverage. I mean, it’s more of a Fest now than just a tournament, but where are the standings? Photos? etc? Oh wait — they’re on…Bassmaster.com. Watch out BassFan? But good move on the part of the TTBC folks. Can’t git more eyeballs nowhere else. Plus Overstreet is definitely underworked….

> Did Howell get a manlier hat? Would like to say yes, but will leave it up to your judgment:

> Props to Clausen for choosing Ray Bob as the place to release his pet catfish, Spike. Said he had to keep it in a bathtub in the garage it had gotten so big. Fed it mac n cheese:

$90K USED boat!!
Short version is a 2014 Bullet 22SF custom-built by East Coast Perfection Marine. For the loooong list of deets click it here.
Not sure what the dude’ll get next??
“I need two poles…”

“…one spin reel and one baitcast. Love watchin’ them bend, bend, bend…”

Funny on its own (do you know what a BroNeck is? now you do), but even better cuz it’s a parody of the Kevin Gates tune “2 phones”…which has 89 million views on the Tube. Might want to watch that one first to git this’n in full:

News

1. Zona and KVD on Ike Live tonight.

From the hype this is getting this will either be the greatest Ike Live ever or the Iaconellis’ greatest online garage sale ever. Either way should be entertaining. Watch here.

Tip of the Day

Not the first guy I’ve heard who feels this way — just another example of the uber-detailness (not really a word) of the top dudes:

Quote of the Day

You can’t beat a guy who’s on a glory hole.

Matt Herren talkin‘. Don’t really want to touch that one with a 10’ Power-Pole, so will just have to take your word for it bud! Lol here’s the full quote, from his pattern story:

> “One of the biggest reasons I haven’t won til now is just dumb luck. I haven’t fished badly, it’s just every tournament when I came in 2nd or 3rd some guy won it on a glory hole. You can’t beat a guy who’s on a glory hole.

> “There’s been five tournaments where, had it not been for one angler finding a glory hole, I would’ve won every one of them. So you have to be careful in evaluating making big changes in what you’re doing. I’ve been averaging over $100,000 in winnings per year throughout my career – I don’t need to change much. I just need a little luck, man!”

How does one find a glory hole? Careful map study:

Shot of the Day

One of the best winner shots I’ve ever seen. JO of course:
