Ever Give a Dog a Bassin’ Name?

September 12, 2012 | By | 8 Replies More

One o’ these pups will be ours!

We’ve got a Lab (black, of course, according to my daughter) incoming from Alabama in a couple months, and the family is playing the name game.

My kids are coming up with names like VanDam, Chapman and Nellie (as in Iaconelli). Then we went through stuff like Shimano, Loomis, Bomber, Wooly Bugger (Yum didn’t make it).

I’m laughing about all this. My wife is looking worried, like, “My kids are all messed up!” And I know somewhere waaaaaaaaay back in her brain she’s thinking (again): “Should I have married this guy?!

So I’m sitting there laughing at it all, then figured the Kumars aren’t the only ones sufferin’ from bassin’ fever. So 2 Qs for you fellow sufferers:

1. Any of you out there ever give a dog a bassin’-related name?

2. If not, how ’bout a few bassin’-related suggestions for boy and girl dogs?

  1. Named my cat right after my buddy bought his new boat. 17 years later “RANGER” is still happy and healthy and my buddy is on is 3rd different boat.

We recently got a shiba inu, which is a Japanese dog, and wanted to name it after a Japanese angler. We settled on Kota, after Kota Kiriyama. We also considered Yuki (Ito, of Megabass), and Seiji (Kato, of Jackall).

Male or female pup for the Kumars?

  3. Several Reaction Innovation names come to mind ;) but since its gonna be a family dog…You could call him “hooker” or “jaw jacker”. “dottie” wld be good for an all black dog. “Ranger” or “Skeeter” sound pretty good. no no no…i got it….”Black Dog”. POW! as C Lane wld say

  4. Mike Fillmer says:

    I like ‘Little John’.

  5. Parks says:

From Alabama. You have to call it G-Man!

  6. Jeff Hahn says:

Giving a pet is fishing related name…NEVER!

Uh…but, I did name my son after the old timer who owned the fishing camp in Ontario where my family stayed for 30 years. Does that count? LOL!

  7. Kenny3Times says:

I once knew a dog named Slugo… I thought it was the coolest darn name ever for a pooch.

  8. Baolao81 says:

No “Yum”, hahaha. We have an English bulldog named “Dimsum”. But seriously, how about “Homer” after the late one?
