Do bass get hairballs?

If nothing else, this dude who feeds his largie a couple mice proves this: a bass will eat anything.

At times I felt like avid tournament fishermen out there had no idea what I was talking about.

Randall Tharp at the Anglers Marine Bass-A-Thon in So Cal.

> We were talking mostly the same language, but somehow it just didn’t register.

> I looked at some of the foot-long swimbaits and rats they were selling, and I wondered if they were really going to use them for bass or just mount them over the fireplace.

But:

> I probably spent about $700 or $800 on them. That wasn’t as much as my good friend Bryan Thrift, who spent over a thousand bucks on the big baits. Rumor has it that Edwin Evers holds the record for a non-westerner at Bass-A-Thon with purchases that added up to $1,800.

Speaking of which, shouldn’t a swimbait that costs this much come with a presentation case or something??

Burm? Weaver?

Whatever it is, it looks interesting:

Real name is the Mongrel, made by Blackhawk Custom Baits out of NY. Don’t know anything about the company, so this is not a recommendation….

Holy cow lookit this deer Billy McDonald got!

FLWer can hunt! Billy’s new nickname = 50-cal

Good pipes, all in tune (tx!), but the uke is money.

Why is the dude wearing shades? That’s Brandon Palaniuk! Dude, you can play!

News

1. Edwin Evers gets nutty.E-squared has gone nuts – he’s sellin’ ’em:

> “If I told you I was a pecan nut it might seem like a joke, but it’s true.”

Pecan “nut?” Don’t know about that, but is it just me or is there something holy about EE in this pic:

2. Shaw Grigsby: 2 surgeries, 1 to go.

Both shoulders done, now rehab, one knee left. Dang!

‘Bout time hahaha!

> The regulations will also include a list of species that are not prohibited in specific geographic regions but for which control activities may be undertaken. Initial list includes tunicates, green crab, and species such as smallmouth bass and walleye, which are native to some parts of Canada but are considered invasive elsewhere.

Reminds me of the time Mercer and I stuffed his livewells full of smallies and dropped one in every water body we saw on the way back to his house. Oh wait…I never got that INVITE MERCER! (hee-hee)

6. Low water years now over for Great Lakes.

7. CA: Low water drone vid.

Take a tour of all the low Cali lakes. Pretty soon people be fishin’ for ground squirrels there….

11. Bass fishing art sux?

So says one art snob anyhow. I kinda like some of the examples, like this one:

Guess you just need to be a bass-head to get it.

Tip of the Day

How the “old” Tiger Woods used to be.

See if you can apply this to your fishing:

> Tiger once described his training with mental coach Jay Brunza as something that “helped me understand a different part of my creativity. I know I was there [on the course], but I don’t remember the golf shots.”

> In other words, Woods often played “in the zone.” As Brunza explains, “The athlete in the peak performance zone is in a heightened state of awareness and absorbed focus, letting the performance happen rather than thinking about and helping the performance happen.”

> That’s how Tiger used to be, but nowadays…he’s making the same mistake as any weekend hacker: micro-managing. For example, he blamed his collapse in a recent PGA Championship on thinking “too little” about swing mechanics. That’s’ the voice of a player thinking too much about swing mechanics.

> …when he was the most dominant golfer ever…he’d be so entrenched in the moment that, as Woods describes, “my subconscious takes over. I remember walking into a shot then I don’t remember anything until I see the ball leave.”

> The “blackout period” Woods describes is the ultimate hyper-focus where your conscious mind is sealed up during execution and your swing is handed over to your unconscious competence. Tiger needs to channel that again. You should, too.

Quote of the Day

Yesterday I helped one of my colleagues crack a safe in the Netherlands.

Ryan White talkin’, Bassmaster Team Champeenship competitor and ex-Marine who now helps the gov’t crack safes. What’s remarkable about this quote is he was doing that through Facebook messaging during Team Champeenship practice.

That’s cool and all, but here’s what happens when Ryan gets mad:

Lol the remote choke! Man, I’m just happy if I can eat a sammich with a rod in my hand. #stout

Shot of the Day

Here’s something you don’t see every day – big smallie on a big swimbait:
