If you recollect, the WaveSpin spining reel came out a few years ago (I think it debuted at a Classic?), the brainchild of Doug Hannon, aka the Bassin’ Professor. The deal is it supposedly eliminates – not just decreases, but eliminates – loops and therefore tangles. It also supposedly holds more line, all of which adds up to longer casts and more casts…which is where the “more fish guarantee” comes in:
“Time wasted in clearing loops and tangles can cost you up to 300 casts a day. More casts means more fish, that’s the WaveSpin advantage – more fish guaranteed.”
That’s Doug Talking.
Hmm. Still a bold claim, but not as bold as it first appeared. Personally, the more fish thing – whatever. But a spinning reel that truly isn’t a pain in the a** half the time you’re fishing it, that I’m interested in. So if this stops or decreases line twist, great.
Come to think of it, I believe Doug or Russ or someone there was supposed to have sent me a WaveSpin to check out back in the Bassin’Fan days. Never got it….
Anyhow, anyone ever try one of these?
How ’bout one o’ the CastAway Skeleton Microwave rods that Hannon developed, which supposedly eliminates line slap (see pic). Anyone?
This vid is informative but the camera work may make you dizzy.
