Pirch can count 5, Robison wants to sack KVD, 2 Cali 13-lbers

Today’s Top 4

All I have to do is be able to count to five.

Cliff Pirch to his algebra teacher back in the day. How awesome is that?

From a GREAT article on Cliff on bassmaster.com, written by Steve Bowman. Who knew Bowman could write? (Wright?) More from it:

> He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and it would create the biggest challenge of his life. It’s a part of his life Pirch doesn’t want to talk about, even asking that Bassmaster.com not say anything about it. But he agreed once he realized that his fight could help others in the same proverbial boat.

> Interestingly, Pirch has never taken medication for the disease. “I didn’t want to go through that. A shot a day with no guarantees that it would help.”

> …a young woman in North Dakota who had been confined to a wheelchair by the disease. After changing her diet and lifestyle, she now walks. Pirch followed that course, putting more focus on his faith, trusting that God would bring him through. “We are told scripturally to not be fearful,” Pirch said.

How awesome is that? #respect

Btw Cliff is still lookin’ for bigfoot. Good luck man! He’s out there!

> Robison, 31, wants to be a professional bass angler when his playing days are over. “Everything I do now for after football is kind of geared toward fishing.”

> …has sponsorship deals with no companies such as Ranger Boats, Evinrude Outboard Motors, Rigid Industries and Strike King.

> I’ve been around him enough that I can tell you he knows the game,” VanDam said. “I think I’m a pretty good judge of character. I can tell from his mental state of mind that he’s got a shot at (the pro tour), for sure. It’s tough. It’s real tough, but if anybody could do it, I think he could.”

> Some say Chicago DE Willie Young has stolen Robison’s sack dance…. “Bottom line, it’s great for the sport (of fishing) to have guys like myself and him do that,” said Robison. “It brings a lot of awareness to the sport.”

Okay cool, but then there’s this:

> Playing the first year of a four-year, $28 million contract extension signed in October 2013….

B-ri! Don’t be jumpin’ off that gravy train anytime soon!

You hear it all the time: Big bass aren’t little bass.

– What?? Is this true?? Wait…if you drop a big bass and a small bass from the same height, which one falls faster?
Hahaha! That’s Ish Monroe talkin’ big bass…which aren’t little. From a great post, which talks about: fishing in the middle of the day – shallow.

Guess sometimes Ish don’t like what he sees with the basses….

…with no sound/video demo..?? Anyhow:

> EBS MultiTouch takes it even further, now allowing anglers to “program” the sounds

their baits make, with four different settings that change the sounds emitted – from EBS Original (gill plate compressions) to EBS Craw (snapping shellfish) to EBS Shad (panicked/fleeing shad) to a fourth “silent” or “stealth” setting with no baitfish sounds.

Word is this is from Livingston’s parent company’s research into the NS-5:

These three anglers have expressed interest in the bait:

[Just having fun with it! Might be the greatest thing ever, who knows.]

News

1. Todd Auten says no to Elites.

FLWer after qualifying thru Opens:

> “I treat like it a business. I have to go to where I know you can make money. That’s how I look at it.”

2. Clunn raises chickens.

Competitively? I would not be surprised.

> “I blame Jerry McKinnis for this,” Rick said.

[Full disclosure: 100% of that is taken out of context.]

3. Freedom Lures gets FLWer Casey Martin.

4. LJ Louie Stout or Louie Stout, LJ.

B.A.S.S. senior writer Louie Stout is a Legendary Journalist and will be referred to as such henceforth. He will also denote that with either an LJ before or after his name.

Haha congrats man! All I know is that Louie is one of the best dang writers ever in bassin’…which would be BDWEIB after his name…which would be bad cuz that’s kinda like “B-Dweeb!”

5. B.A.S.S. Team Champeenship starts tomorrow.

….inaugural Toyota Bonus Bucks Bassmaster Team Championship Dec. 10-13 at DeGray Lake, AR. Grab some Old Mil and gitcha spoons out!

6. TN: New smallie regs on Douglas.

Effective March 1:

> From June 15 through Oct. 15, there will be a 20-inch minimum length limit on smallmouth bass, and only one smallmouth bass may be kept in the daily creel limit of 5 bass (in combination with largemouth and spotted bass). From Oct.16 through June 14, there will be an 18-inch minimum length on smallmouth bass with a 5 fish creel limit (in combination with largemouth and spotted bass).

7. AL: Navi buoys leaving Eufaula.

[Contributioned by Kyle G]

> Based on budget cuts for 2015, the 50-year-old USCG station at Lake Eufaula, AL is being closed down. And with it the marker buoys that mark the lake for safe navigation are being “thinned” out as one USCG employee put it.

> Local anglers are concerned the lack of safety will decrease the tourism money that the lake brings to the local communities.
May see a few more rigs look like this for a few years while folks re-learn the lake:

8. TX: Gal catches 27-lb striper on Texoma.

New lake record by 7 lbs.

9. Strike King re-ups with FLW.

10. Shimano/B.A.S.S. “yoot” conservation grants.Â

> The Shimano/B.A.S.S. Youth Conservation Initiative is now accepting project proposals from state chapters and B.A.S.S. Nation clubs through Jan. 15, 2015, for grant assistance.
11. TBF Divisional dates announced._____

CA Scene – from Jody Only

> 17-year-old Brandon Lum, Don Pedro, 13 pounds even, throwing a Deps 250 in Butch Brown trout. Stout!

Headline of the Day

Don’t know if this is just for rich kids who own pirate websites or what, but seriously??

Line of the Day

Tip of the Day

Awesome Hack Attack tip.

New Hackney column on Bassmaster.com – awesome:

> When I’m looking for largemouth, my target area is almost always cover. What type of cover will vary from lake to lake and river to river, but it’ll always be cover.

> I’m not much interested in water depth, temperature or clarity. I’m interested in cover. Only when I find bass do those other factors come into play. They fine-tune what I’m doing. They don’t define it.

> My cover is fished with moving baits like crankbaits and spinnerbaits. I want to find a quick bite if I can, and then move off to somewhere else. Usually I only need one bite – never more than two – to tell me I’ve found bass.

Uh, yeah, man, me too. I actually only need half a fish to tell me….

Quote of the Day

Maybe it’s the time I spent fishing bass tournaments during my misspent youth, but I can’t seem to get over the notion that the fishing has to be better four miles up the lake….

– Hahaha! Slap yourself if this is you! (ow)
[quote from here]

Shot of the Day

Don’t know what or why this Fletch and Swin-dell shot, but strangely it does give me the munchies dude….

Great Rods/Reels/Line stuff!
