Elite day off??, A uh…turd swimbait??, Babe o’ the week

Welcome to the new-lookin’ BassBlaster! Hope you dig it, tho we’ll keep messin’ with it to make it better. Rawk on!

Today’s Top 5

Elite day off??

Used to be – many years ago in a galaxy far-like away – that pro bassin’ derbies were fishin’ X days and whoever had the most weight won. Not no mo. Case in point: The AOY Championship: Weather permittin’, the guys’ll fish today and tomorrow (no cut – I think), then are off Saturday, then finish out the deal on Sunday.

For some reason that’s remindin’ me of this album cover:

Or maybe that’s just the B.A.S.S. TV production crew – hahaha!

Will the day 2 leader’s fish move in 36 hours? Will the weather change (yep)? We’ll see. Wishin’ all the guys luck…and safety.

Turd swimbait??

Swimbait? What is it? Or, rather, what WAS it before it was painted and hooks were put on it? Looks just like the plastic dog turd the kids and I leave around the house for my wife to find….

As opposed to this thing of beauty. Gillrilla – love it!

Wood (row) you rat?

Don’t get the whole rat bait revival. Mebbe related to the underground swimbait scene. Whatever – some bass somewhere will bite a stick with a hook on it…which is what this is sorta:

Weird bass affection.

Glad this ain’t how SARS spreads:

Kids, give it a peck and move on.

Beaned by a spoon.

Gal in Australia (what is this, Aussie week in the Blaster?) was eating outside at a restaurant by the water when:

> “I felt like someone had shot me in the head. It threw me back. It was a really hard bang.”

> “I put my hands up to my face and when I pulled my hands down blood was pouring from my head and pouring down my neck and top.”

Treated at the scene by Aussie Army medics = stout.

Tip of the Day

Jared Lintner: Don’t fish too fast.

We’ve all heard this before…but all still do it:

> “A lot of anglers fish too fast. You get on something in practice and rather than locking in on it, if the bite gets tough you get in a big hurry and fish the baits too quickly.

> “The more you do that, the less you’re going to capitalize on your pattern.

> “I tell myself, ‘Slow down and make one cast at a time. You can’t catch five fish at once.’ It’s a 9-hour tournament day, and you don’t have to catch five fish in 15 minutes.”

Quote of the Day

I usually don’t start thinking about it until I wake up in the morning.

    RE: Beaned by a spoon.

That probably really hurt. The worst that ever happened to me, was early one morning I was fishing from shore chucking a 1/2oz spinnerbait. I made a long cast across a channel and after about two turns of the reel handle it looked like someone hit the flush lever, because there was a huge swirl.

I set the hook and the rod doubled over, but the hooks didn’t stick, and the lure came rocketing back at mach two. I closed my eyes and flinched because it was heading right for me. I felt it smash me in the face (nose and upper lip).

When I opened my eyes, I looked down to see wear my spinnerbait landed on the ground after hitting me, but couldn’t find it anywhere. As I spun around to look behind me, I heard the familiar jingle of spinnerbait blades coming from my face. I reached up and the spinnerbaits main hook was sitting on my lower lip. Luckily, not past the barb. I had a fat lip for days and had to explain over and over how I got it…
