1. See you later Pooley.

James “Pooley” Dawson, whom I did not know well but knew, died recently. He was as much a part of B.A.S.S. as Ray, Helen, etc. I loved seeing him smile all the time, and I know I'm not alone. Thank you Pooley.

From db's above-linked article:

To help Pooley’s family with the  medical/funeral bills, you can send money via PayPal to his wife’s email address: maryoladawson71@yahoo.com

2. 14.66 caught on T-Bend!

Lake has produced some big'uns this year:

> Judy and husband Randy Cagle…on a scouting mission to locate fish for Randy's Fishers of Men Championship Tournament….

> Fishing in 15 feet over submerged hydrilla, Judy hooked [it] on her second cast.

Caught on an R1 Bass Stick 'Um Senko.

3. Will all bass be kept at Clear Lake…

…because of the hitch being listed as threatened? Too early to tell but Cali has the crazies no doubt. Besides: Why not ruin one of the best bass lakes in the country??

> The recent ruling by the California Fish and Game Commission declaring Clear Lake hitch to be threatened has more than a few bass fishermen upset, especially the part in the petition filed by the Center for Biological Diversity suggesting that non-native predator species preying on the hitch and their population be controlled near mouths of creeks that they spawn in.

> Largemouth bass are not native to California or the West Coast. They were first introduced into the state 1874 and in Clear Lake just before the turn of the 20th century. Prior to that time the only native game fish in Clear Lake was the Sacramento Perch.

> Fishermen see this as a first step toward possible removal of daily limits and a rule forcing them to keep all the bass they catch.

What do you think about this Al?

4. Feel GOOD about bassin'.

If'n you're feelin' jaded – mebbe cuz you've been to a bass club meeting (lol) – read this, about the Jason Sain benefit derby.

Stay tuned to all things Jason Sain here. Amazin' thing about our sport is there are thousands of stories like that one. #bassinisawesome

Or this – Mercedes Bionic

Seriously? I think this is WAY more bassin':

Tip of the Day

FLWer Bryan Thrift: Topwater Hints.

> The first bite or two on a topwater will tell you a lot about whether you need to make some changes….

> If you miss the first fish, or maybe just barely hook it, there’s probably something wrong with the size or the type of lure you’re throwing and how you’re working it. Usually it’s a matter of changing the lure and changing retrieves more than anything else.

> If a fish swirls at my bait and doesn’t take it, mainly it’s telling me there’s something wrong with the cadence – I might be fishing it too fast or too slow.

> In the Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Murray, the first morning I had some fish swirl at a buzzbait and miss it. I put that down and picked up a Pop-R, and caught a couple of keepers on it because I was fishing it slower.

Shot of the Day

Only a Lindner would fish this color – and make it work. In this case T-Roy. Bait is a Rapala X-Rap.
