40-lb limit, Giants still biting, Coot in the face

Today’s Top 4

George Herr, Many (LA) Bass Club, Nov. 9, ridge in Six Mile Creek, 50 minutes:

> “I had no bites at 7:00, so I switched to a jig…by 7:50, I had the boat back on the trailer and was headed to Toledo Town.”

> Using a homemade, 3/8-oz jig, the angler ended up hooking 40.45 pounds of bass including a huge 10.97-pounder.

> …10.97-pounder and one weighing 9.15 pounds…the remaining bass on Herr’s monster stringer weighed 8.13, 6.39 and 5.81 pounds….

Incredibly no pics of that limit but here’s one of those fish…maybe?

My buddy Rob caught this in NJ yesterday!

Lol – Donnie Pedro, CA, Nov 14, ABT glide bait. #stout

Ain’t that tail weird or is it just me?

> Charlie caught this 11.71 BEAST on a 3.5″ Nech Wilderness gold spoon…fishing deeper spots 20′ to 24’…with a lot of small sand bass and bar fish with contour drops close. The spoon was the best bite and just have to be patient with it….

Brandon is what Bryan would have been – the complete package, a good-looking, well-spoken kid who could relate to people across the country.

– Brandon Palaniuk likened to Bryan Kerchal, who if you don’t know was the only Federation qualifier ever to have won the Classic. If you don’t know his story, read this great post on Bassin’Fan.
Here’s Bryan:

Rumor is Brandon wrote that article…(hee hee!)

Headline of the Day

Derp de doo, a derp dee doo!

Tip of the Day

Ott DeFoe: Fishin’ the Waking Minnow.

> In clear water in the fall, DeFoe fishes the Rapala BX Waking Minnow deep over humps and long points, and shallow around shoreline brush, docks and marinas.

> “If you’re out on a series of points and you’re seeing the occasional fish breaking here or there, that’s what I like to see. That’s where that thing will really pay dividends because they’re just kind of roaming and looking for an easy meal. You swim that thing by them, they’re going to eat it.” IBass will often rise 15 to 20 feet to hit the BX Waking Minnow.

> If he doesn’t find a school on or near an offshore hump or long point, DeFoe will target shallow brush or the boat slips in large marinas. “Fish will group up on those a lot too, especially this time of year.”

> In stained water, DeFoe throws the BX Waking Minnow on shallow flats where bass are chasing baitfish. “In colored water, bass key on the commotion of the treble hooks swinging side to side hitting the side of the bait, and just the amount of water that it moves. You can feel it in the rod tip – it’s nearly like the thump of a squarebill crankbait….”

> “If its slick as glass, 9 times out of 10, I’m going to choose a Waking Minnow over a walking-style topwater because of the way it disturbs the surface of the water, breaking up the fish’s view of the bait.”

Quote of the Day

I’m going to guide on Rock Lake and fish the Elite Series.

– This young dude, Kansas’ “Barbecue Pete” Peterson’s kid, when asked what he’s going to do when he grows up.

Btw, caught that 4+ on a swimbait after his dad – a crankbait guy – advised him on the negzy. #ohsnap

Shot of the Day

Coot incoming, shot by James Overstreet. Need the caption to make it full on JO – and btw if you’ve been wanting to get friended with JO on Facebook, he now has a fan page here (#aboutdangtime):

> When you out there in your rig…you always got to be watching out for them coots. Cause one time I took a pic of Bill Lowen getting wacked in the face by one, running about 70 mph.

Great Rods/Reels/Line stuff!
