Today's Top 4

1. 13-07 caught in MO.

Here 'tis, bet y'all never guess what it was caught on (below the photo):

> Pictured is Audra Pixley from Cape Girardeau, Mo., with a 13 pound 7 ounce largemouth bass she caught out of Rotary Lake in the park while catfishing with chicken livers.

Bwahahahahahaha! Take THAT you $100 swimbait dudes!

2. More on the new 'Rude G2.

> The exoskeleton design of the G2 was inspired by the armor of superheroes such as Iron Man and Batman. BRP employees more than once called the look “bold.” [Not Robocop??]

> BRP CEO José Boisjoli…asked that the engine be recognizable as an Evinrude from 100 yards away at dusk.

> Among some of the changes include an improved piston/cylinder design, a new Starboard-Starboard design that improves acceleration, a Dual Axis clean rigging system, an i-Trim automatic trimming system, a hydrodynamic SLX gear case which reduces steering effort, auto winterization, no oil changes, no break-in period and Dynamic Power Steering integrated directly into the midsection.

> With these updates, Evinrude reports that it provides 15% more fuel efficiency and 20% more torque versus competitive outboards and 75% fewer regulated emissions than competitive four-strokes.

> Evinrude is so confident in its improvements that it’s offering customers a 5-year engine warranty, 5-year corrosion warranty and 5-year/500-hour no dealer-scheduled maintenance.

Wow! But it does sound like a typical outie-board:

3. NC: No drones fer fish'n or hunt'n.

> Using a drone to hunt or fish or to harass hunters would be a misdemeanor. Putting a weapon on one, or using one with a weapon on it, would be a felony, as would using a drone to interfere with manned aircraft traffic.

Dang it now you gave all the crazies this weapon idea….

Btw here's what predator drones look like in the maple hood:

4. Female B.A.S.S. pioneer dies.

MO's Conny Jenkins, a great lady whom I'm happy to say I had a chance to meet and talk to one Classic, passed from this life on June 27. She was the first gal to fish as what was known as an "amateur" back then in B.A.S.S. events, here's more from the bassfishingarchives:

> …the first woman to compete as an amateur in a Bassmaster tour-level tournament [was] Conny Jenkins of Knob Noster, MO…[she] finished 80th out of 91 anglers in the amateur division of the Bassmaster BP Top 100 tournament on Bull Shoals in May 1991…went on to fish five more B.A.S.S. events….

For that 1991 derby the pros were in a tizzy over what if she had to go to the bathroom, etc. Conny laughed about that stuff when she told me about it. Tx for the intro Alex, and RIP bassin' sister.

Tip of the Day

KVD: When to fish fast or slow deep.

> "If you're on a lake that has power generation, that moving current typically puts the bass on top of a ledge in position for them to target shad as they come drifting down with that current. That's when a crankbait is really effective.

> "Day in and day out, a crankbait is my go-to bait for ledge fishing. It's an efficient tool to cover a lot of water, you can get it down there quick, and when it's grinding the bottom – when that bait is skipping and kicking around – it's great at triggering neutral bass.

> "So I almost always show 'em a crankbait first, even if they're not moving a lot of water and the fish aren't in the most active mood. In a lot of cases you can still get them to bite a crankbait. And once you catch the first fish on a crankbait, you can fire the rest up and catch them back to back to back.

> "If I'm marking fish and can't get them to bite a crankbait – if I'm marking fish on a drop, point or ledge, they don't bite and I might not know for sure they're bass – then I'll drag a Strike King Tour Grade Football Jig or Denny Brauer Structure Jig, both matched with a Rage Craw trailer, on the bottom and try to get the bass to react.

> "I did that on the Chick. For the most part very little water was moving. Plus the fish get a lot of pressure – the lake is right outside a major city, a lot of anglers fish it and you probably have tournaments 3-4 times a week there. I think those fish were conditioned to seeing a lot of crankbaits.

> "So I went to something that's fished slow, that stays in front of the fish a long time, and looks real natural – like a jig or worm."

Quote of the Day

I just get on the bank and grind.

 – Elite Series rookie Glenn Browne talkin' 'bout krumping his bank-beatin' fishin' style:

> I'm not an offshore guy and I don't believe these last two [Elites] will be offshore events. I'll be on the bank or in the grass.

Predator drones in the maple hood? I think American pick on Canadians because they’re jealous. But, that’s just me.

Where about’s do you live, Jay? I’ve got a drone “oot and aboot” right now… 🙂
