$100K bass boat, Your baits ain’t big enough, Hack on channel swings

Today’s Top 5

Hella discount off MSRP, but still. That’s pretty much enough to buy this:

Dude I love to fish, but if I had to make a choice, it’d be easy!

Your swimbait big enough?
In this vid, hipped to me by BB reader TXman (tx man!), dude ketches a feesh on a jig, but then this:

So…you sure your swimbait is big enough? While we’re on it: How ’bout this for a match?

Your jig big enough?

Check these shots posted by Dave “I’m not Charles Xavier” Mercer:

You see the size to size ratio?

While we’re on it: Your claws blue enough?

I think a Classic win would be the next step for me. It would allow me to say something.

Jason Christie talkin’ on Bassmaster.com. For cryin’ out loud man — WHAT YOU BEEN HOLDING IN ALL THESE YEARS?? Just say it! We can take it bro!

Here’s a little Crue “Primal Scream” to help you out Jase!

Mercer revealed…sorta.

His 2015 TV season just started, he’s catching fish seemingly at will, big ones, so I asked:

Me: Isn’t fishing in Canada basically like fishing at all the ponds Bill Dance uses for his show?
Dave: Ummmmmm YES that’s why I live there! However even though the fish can be as dumb as rocks sometimes they still outsmart me.

Does anyone but me, Zona and Overstreet know you have a twin brother who films these shows while you’re emceeing the Elite Series…or is it vice versa?
I can neither confirm or deny that. Next question….

JO suggested this question: When’s Zona going to get here?
He gets here on Friday, that’s when he always arrives. I’m actually thinking of getting custom shirts made for the Elite Series that have “Zona gets here on Friday” printed across the back.

Hahahaha! Love it.

1. FLWer Clent Davis gets Bass Bomb.

From the makers of Buck Bomb:

> …anglers can be armed with a five ounce, shelf-s, fit-in-your-pocket can of pure baitish oil fish attractant…the new Bass Bomb, which is available in a combination shad / garlic flavor.

> Anglers can spray it on lures, soak their plastics and other baits in it or use it to make a slick in a cove….

Uh…I ain’t puttin’ nuthin’ with fish oil in my pocket! Also ain’t sprayin’ stuff in a cove, don’t think Warden Buford be likin’ that:

Do NOT wanna make that dude mad….

2. Aussie explains bassin’ to Aussie.

Bass fishin’ in the “United Stites.” Aussies kinda sound like they’re from Maine….

3. CA: Mission Viejo bass all dead?!

Algae outbreak killed 100K fish. Dang!

> “I think it’s possible for the bass fishery to come back, but it will take multiple years,” Frabotta said.

4. CA: New Melones is hot…

…and so is Perris, but apparently Clear Lake ain’t.

5. TX: New weigh station at Austin.

6. NH: Sunapee ramp stuff still dragging.

Taken like 100 years of fighting, and still no ramp. Lake residents must be skeert of bassin’ boats.

7. Ranger Cup U deets.

8. TX: TTT sponsor re-ups.

> Lowrance
> Merc

9. Erwin Cole passes on.

RIP bassin’ brother.

10. GoPro wireless broadcasting.

Here we go, real-time derby coverage is coming….

FORGOT:

> Mr. Billy Dance apparently is still with the Rebel line of Pradco baits, but the rest is all Bass Pro Shops, aka the future Lords of the Bassin’ Universe.

> Skeeter still sponsoring Bass Champs.

Tip of the Day

> Almost all swings are characterized by a flat side on the inside and a steep side on the outside.

> It’s wintertime, so we’re going to look at those outside edges. The inside edges will produce when the weather and the water is warm, but that’s not in January.

> I like to start my search – especially when I’m fishing a highland reservoir – at the last channel swing in the back of a creek or a cut just before it flattens out and runs up against the shore. At that point the channel will usually be pretty close to the bank on the steep (outside) side.

> …you’ll see some sort of a terrain change. It might be rock to mud, mud to sand or a collection of chunk rock up against something else. And, there’ll almost always be some wood or debris that’s washed into the channel that’s lying on the bottom.

> My first choice of lures is usually a jig…. I like black or black and blue in the winter. Fish it real slow, just crawling it along the bottom.

Quote of the Day

The ones you’re going to need to win the Classic are probably the nomadic herring-eaters.

Hack talkin’ ’bout Hartwell’s crazy fat bass who love picked herring…or something like that. Or this:

Get the herring, we’re havin’ a PART-A!

Shot of the Day

They’re droppin’ the magnum spoons on Biwa!
